Team N33T

About

Team N33T is an Original English Language visual novel group. We are currently working on our first project, Sepia Tears ~midwinter's reprise~, which is a 5-10 hour mostly-linear pseudo-nakige with elements of parody and sad things in snow. If that doesn't make sense to you, just click the link.

This is a dev blog in every sense of the word except for the fact that I don't actually blog on it. I will remedy that problem as soon as I figure out how to blog about a game while making said game. This site is not formal, and we are not a company. There is no core team at the moment, but the staff may very well be anime fans that you've seen elsewhere on the internet. Despite the fact that our games are free, my goal is to create visual novels on par with those seen in the Japanese doujin scene, as well as the OEL manga that have been published in the U.S.

A Short History

-

There was once a time when the URL you are currently on did not exist. That time was called the spring of 2008, when the nameless anime fan who went by the handle "Eternal" on the handful of forums he actually visited was approached by a senior at his high school with a project of potentially epic proportions. Despite the fact that they were not old enough to legally play most of the good visual novels in the world, the team of fans was eager to brainstorm - and, most importantly, to dream. Though the group consisted only of a a  handful of fledgling visual novel fans and couple of code-literate writers who might have been able to learn Ren'Py, the mismatched team of four embarked on what once appeared to be a fruitless effort.

Fast forward a few months: hobbies come and go like the ephemeral blossom of the sakura trees in oh-so-many visual novels, and the team quickly fell apart. Eternal soon found himself with a completed but messy script of 80,000 words and not much to do with it. Putting that aside for the time being, he went ahead with his goal to start an anime blog.

Now the internet enters the picture.

Fast forward about half a year: the young blogger in question started to become less of a new blogger and made a few friends and contacts around the community. Though the process of blogging and learning more about anime was a time-consuming activity, plans were being formed as the year went on. During the summer of 2009, fellow blogger and visual novel fan Choux joined as a character designer, and the wheels started rolling.

Presently, we are in the process of piecing together the project that will hopefully make an impact on the OEL scene upon its completion. Though it's hard to predict how many obstacles we will have to face, I firmly believe in the power of amateur creativity, and I'm determined to prove that OEL VNs can indeed be good.

The Name

-

The name "Team N33T" originated from a series of brainstorming sessions as the founding members searched their vocabulary for a clever otaku-related pun. While the name might not be very... punny... and while all of the members are indeed engaged in either Education or Employment, we figured that anything spelled like 1337 automatically has a cutting-edge ring of nerdiness to it, coupled with the nostalgia of old-school.

Despite the fact that these decisions were made before the writer even knew what he was supposed to be writing, the name is likely to stick until we find a reason to change it.
